Sage & Jacob watching Clemson beat UGA.
These 2 (along with the other 2 that aren't in the picture) bring me so much joy and I have a story to share about that sweet onesie that Sage is wearing. So, Jacob and I got married on January 3, 2004. We had always agreed that we wanted 3 kids, starting sometime after we had been married 2 years. The first year of our married life was one big adventure: a trip to Hawaii, a 5 month backpacking trek, a puppy adoption, a move to Memphis, 2 new jobs, grad school, a new car, etc. By the time year #1 was over, we were settling into our new life together, in a new state, with new friends. We were happy...but I got bit by a bug. Yep, the baby bug and I got a fever to go with it. I'd see a billboard with a baby and turn all, "Aaawwweeee, look at that cute baby. Don't you want a baby now? We need a baby. Can we have a baby? Can I get off birth control? Is it baby time? I've kept the dog alive, don't you think I'm ready for a baby?" You get the picture. After my little baby gush, Jacob would say, "I'm just not ready yet." Boo. I was crushed. Monthly. He wasn't being mean. Just honest. After all, we had only been married about a year when this started and as mentioned above, we had a big first year. For most of the year 2005, I nagged Jacob about having a baby and he never gave in. That's not his nature. He's a leader and a good leader sticks to what they think is best. He wanted us to be financially prepared and he wanted to be physically and emotionally ready too - oh, and he was working part time and getting a MS in Biomedical Engineering (with straight A's!) so it's not like he was bored.
A few weeks prior to our 2nd anniversary we celebrated Christmas at our new house. We swapped gifts back and forth and the very last box I opened had the most adorable Clemson onesie and booties in it. It had a Clemson baby hat and it had a Clemson shirt that said, "I'm a Little Tiger." Jacob looked at me and said, "I want to have a baby now." It was one of the sweetest things he's ever done for me and I will never forget it. It was almost a year later before we were able to announce our first "Little Tiger" was on the way but ever since then, Jacob has been the most amazing dad. He adores our kids. He plays with them, I mean genuinely plays with them. He takes Dakota on weekly dates. He teaches them. He prays with them and he continues to be a strong leader in our family. I couldn't have asked for a better partner to do this parent thing with - and I'm so thankful we waited until he was ready.
