Beach Buddies

While we were at Folly, I was able to meet up with Ryan for the first time since May 2011.  She'd never met Corban and I hadn't met her youngest, Elizabeth.  We were able to have dinner at her house one evening where she made these delicious pitas (which I'm making for dinner tonight!) and then she brought the kids to the beach to play one day.  It was so sweet seeing our kids together.  We laughed at the fact we had 5 kids between us - seriously, it seems like yesterday we were slicing our fingers open with x-acto knives and watching Animal Planet during our summer of architecture school.  Now we are mommas who are trying to motivate each other to finish our dreaded ARE's.  Special times.  As cliche as it sounds, I'm thankful that she's a friend who I can "pick up where we left off".  Maybe next time we won't have to wait 2 years between visits!

Celebrate: Poppy Turns 60!

Folly Beach, SC was our destination for Poppy's 60th birthday bash.  We spent a week with some of his family from PA celebrating in a rented house that slept 12 adults.  Jacob wasn't able to make it this week because we were heading to Litchfield with his family the next week and he couldn't take that long off work.  Even though we missed him, we had a great time.  The kids and I spent most of our days on the beach while some of the Pennsylvanians toured beautiful Charleston through carriage rides, eco tours and parasailing.  On the day of dad's bday we had a nice celebration with a low country boil and a chocolate cake to die for.  I wish I would have taken more photos of family but thanks to Facebook I can enjoy some of theirs too.  I usually only get to spend time with my aunts and cousins over Thanksgiving but it was such a treat to have this time with them.

Grammy and Poppy bought Corban some Army men to play with in the sand.  What a fun idea.  Corban (and Dakota too) loved using them with their fort.

Cousin Ben and Corban hanging out (literally).

Samantha is so grown up.  It seems like yesterday she was my flower girl in my wedding!

My cousin Katie had a little girl, Timber, a month before Sage.  I can't wait for them to be able to play together when they get a little older.  This is my Aunt Sandy (Timber's Mimi) with them.

Hey, it was the best I could get out of them.  It will do :)

Pretty sure I'm still living off of the chocolate high from this cake.  It was SO yum.  Dakota thought we should put the whole box of candles on the cake.  We didn't have a lighter or any matches to light them so a paper towel and toaster may have been used to get the job done.  We're a bright (pun intended) family.

Poppy got some fun gifts.  A new Macbook from Martha, some wine and gift cards from his siblings and Brad and I are having some professional family photos of Grammy and Poppy with their kiddos and grandkiddos when we can all get together.  We didn't want to do them without Jacob.

Happy 60th Birthday Poppy!!
